With brand new mobile apps provided by Second Screen

Europe’s largest street Carnival launches its official app with Second Screen

Second Screen, the festival and live event app platform, is this year partnering with Notting Hill Carnival to produce the official Carnival app for 2018. Made in close collaboration with Carnival organisers and veterans, the app is set to become a digital companion for everyone: for performers, for event sponsors and, most importantly, for the two-million attendees that will visit Carnival across the weekend.

The official Carnival app will now allow users to view artist set times for the 38 stages and sound systems around the event, better allowing attendees to plan their day. The location of these stages will be visible within the in-app map feature, which will also display 2018 Carnival floats through GPS technology, meaning attendees will be able to follow the procession in real-time on their phones.

On top of making it easier for Carnival-goers to find their favourite artists and floats, the Notting Hill Carnival app will also make on-site amenities more accessible, with the map also showing the location of food stalls, bars, toilets, police stations and family zones. The aim is to make the Carnival less overwhelming for new visitors, whilst allowing the more seasoned Carnival veterans to get to their favourite areas that little bit faster. Notting Hill Carnival will also use the app to send users notifications regarding security, weather and travel updates, all with the aim of creating an unparalleled level of digital live event support and subsequently unforgettable memories for attendees.

The innovative app service aims to create a ‘Carnival-Hub’, that captures the essence of live performances, whilst giving users unparalleled instant access to exclusive behind the scenes content, offers and events from around the Carnival. Carnival-goers will be able to post photos and videos in the news feed and connect with others at the festival so that, for the weekend and beyond, the Carnival will have its very own social network. This year, for the first time ever, the public will even be able to vote for the winner of Saturday night’s steel drum competition!

The Second Screen bespoke app will therefore also provide Carnival organisers with valuable data on the event, allowing them to determine a quantifiable measure of engagement – how engaged attendees actually are to the main event, how best to enrich their real-time experience, and perhaps most importantly, how to make Carnival better for everyone for years to come.  Data will also be provided to event sponsors, for whom collecting and analysing audiences in a more streamlined narrative structure will allow them to look at how their brand is able to deliver impact in a live event scenario.
